CDC Congressional Ebola Hearing Debate

This is our report on and reaction to the United States government congressional hearing on the Ebola epidemic and crisis. Solutions presented at the #EbolaHearing include increased funding to the CDC, a discussion on travel bans from West Africa and mandatory quarantines of staff treating infected victims in hospitals in the United States. Obama has taken an overly relaxed approach to the pandemic, stating that while he will increase foreign aid, no travel bans will come into effect. What are your thoughts on the Ebola hearing and the democrat’s response to the virus? Are we still being to liberal about the disease?

Anita Sarkeesian Cancels Talk at Utah State University

Anita Sarkeesian, the creator of the popular blog Feminist Frequency received several death threats surrounding her presentation at Utah State University. The presentation was to talk about sexism in video games, a topic that has been increasingly relevant with the news of Gamergate. Unfortunately, due to Utah’s open-carry laws, the university refused to prohibit guns from entering the room where the presentation was held, though they could prohibit backpacks. Sarkeesian often receives such threats, but they are usually mitigated by increased security on site.

Governor Rick Scott and Fangate

So what was #fangate tonight and the giant mess about a fan derailing a debate? The Florida gubernatorial debate got off to an odd start tonight when Governor Rick Scott refused to come out to debate state issues because his Democratic opponent, Charlie Crist, asked for and received a fan under his podium. The fan was not supposed to have been installed, which Scott later denied as the actual reason for his tardiness. “We have been told Governor Scott will not be participating in this debate,” CBS Miami moderator Elliott Rodriguez said. “Now, let me explain what this is all about. Governor Crist has asked to have a fan, a small fan, placed underneath his podium. The rules of the debate that I was shown by the Scott campaign said that there should be no fan. Somehow there is a fan there and for that reason, ladies and gentlemen, Governor Scott will not join us for the debate.”
