This is a tutorial on how to make a “Black Burger” at home, just like the special Japanese Burger King “Black Burger” that went viral this week. I bet you want to taste a delicious black coloured burger for yourself! You don’t need squid ink or bamboo charcoal, either!
BLACK BURGER WITH BLACK CHEESE AND BLACK BACON RECIPE:
Here is the recipe to make twelve black buns:
2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 to 3-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Black food colouring or an equal ratio mix of red, blue and green liquid food colouring.
In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add oil, sugar and food colouring and let stand for 5 minutes. Add egg, salt and enough flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 3-5 minutes. Do not let rise. Divide into 12 pieces; shape each into a smooth ball. Place 3 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Bake at 425° for 8-12 minutes or until golden brown and spongy to touch. Remove from pans to cool. Yields 1 dozen.
For the black processed cheese you will need several slices of processed cheese and liquid food colouring. Melt over a double boiler until liquid and food colouring fully incorporated. Pour onto a greased plastic sheet or silicon mat. Chill to firm and remove with a spatula.
For the black bacon, you need slices of bacon and black food colouring! Apply food colouring to bacon and cook as normal.
Serve the Black Burger with mayo, tomato and fresh romaine lettuce so that the black colour really pops. Enjoy your black burger at home!
